The Look of Travertine Without the Hassle 

Travertine is a natural stone similar to limestone, and while that natural look is highly sought after, it also requires a fair amount of maintenance. Natural travertine is filled with small holes that likely need to be filled and refilled over time, and can show wear - especially when used on floors in areas of the home with high traffic such as a kitchen. 

Because travertine is very porous it is very susceptible to staining and scratching and therefore requires sealing upon first installation, and regular sealing over time. You may also need to use specialist cleaning products to avoid damaging the stone. Travertine is particularly sensitive to acids as it is made of calcium carbonates, so sealing it is important. 

If the sound of all this maintenance is putting you off using travertine in your home, consider using a travertine-effect porcelain tile. Porcelain is low maintenance - with no sealing required. The tiles are resistant to frost, scratches, staining and mould. Travertino is a large format tile, measuring 120cm by 60cm, which makes it ideal for larger spaces. The rectified edges mean you can install the tiles with neat and narrow grout joints, adding to the seamless look.
