How to Choose Indoor Outdoor Tiles

How to Choose Indoor Outdoor Tiles

Whether you are building a brand new house or extending your current one, indoor-outdoor tiles are a great choice for making the most of your space. Using continuous flooring from your indoor living space out onto your patio, balcony or terrace will help to create an almost seamless link between the spaces and make both feel larger.

When it comes to choosing the best indoor-outdoor tiles for your project, there are a few important factors to consider.

Material

There are a few materials that can be used both indoors and outside:

  • Wood has a lovely natural look, but does require regular maintenance to keep it looking its best, particularly outdoors where it can discolour, wear down or even rot.
  • Natural stone is a popular choice for patios and internal flooring, but it will need sealing with specialist products regularly as it is a porous material.
  • Porcelain can be used inside and outdoors and is often available in different thicknesses for different areas. As it is not porous, porcelain will not stain, fade or discolour.

Colour

You probably already have an idea of your colour scheme from other elements such as your kitchen cabinets or furniture. To create a bright and open space opt for light colours such as our Champagne limestone effect tiles or Iguazu stone effect tiles in Ivory. If you want to keep a neutral feel you can't go wrong with a grey tile - Iguazu Silver or several colours from the Canterbury range are ideal choices.

For a striking look choose a dark-coloured tile such as the best-selling Fossil Coke range or Iguazu Dark.

Style

Our porcelain tiles are designed to emulate natural materials, giving you a wide range of styles to choose from.

  • Wood effect - for a natural feel choose our Copse range of wood effect indoor and outdoor tiles. These porcelain planks go with almost all interior styles and require far less maintenance than wooden floors.
  • Cement effect - poured concrete floors have an ultra-modern look, and our cement effect tiles are available in several different shades. Take a look at the Havana and Urbanite ranges to get this look.
  • Stone effect - stone is the most popular style we offer, and there are many different types to choose from. Portico has a realistic slate design, while Gibraltar mimics natural travertine. You can also choose light-coloured limestone in the Champagne range or a more rugged riven style with Iguazu.
